A Madrid, Spain-based cancer diagnostic company seeks to grow its footprint at Pegasus Park a little more than a year after moving into the 26-acre life science hub.

Universal DX Chief Operating Officer Christian Hense confirmed to the Dallas Business Journal via email that the company plans to expand its presence at Bridge Labs at Pegasus Park by about 7,000 square feet by the end of the year. This expansion will bring the company’s total square footage at the complex to 21,000 square feet and deliver new equipment and infrastructure to the office and lab space. Universal DX aims to double its 40-member workforce in the next few months to accommodate its growth.

Hense declined to disclose the facility expansion costs. A permit filed with the city of Dallas indicates remodeling the space could cost about $1.8 million.

The expansion project represents another vote of confidence for the 885,000-square-foot bioscience hub seeking to boost the city’s life science sector. Hense said Universal DX continues to pick Dallas because it’s “excited about the local healthcare and life science ecosystem and Pegasus Park.”

Universal DX is the latest tenant aiming to expand at Pegasus Park. More recently, several tenants including drug manufacturer CG Oncology, investment firm Highland Health Partners and the investment arm of Pegasus Park investor Lyda Hill Philanthropies LH Capital unveiled growth plans at the life science hub.

Established in 2012, Universal DX moved into Bridge Labs at Pegasus Park early last year. The company works with Quest Diagnostics to administer its colorectal cancer screening blood test, Signal-C, to patients across the country.

Pegasus Park is a life science hub housing biotech companies, social impact agencies and university nonprofits. Lyda Hill Philanthropies collaborated with J. Small Investments and Montgomery Street Partners to acquire the former Zale Corp. headquarters in 2015 and redevelop it into Pegasus Park.

Montgomery Street Partners and J. Small Investments opened the 135,000-square-foot Bridge Labs laboratory and office space at the hub to house fast-growing biotech organizations in 2024. The campus also houses the 37,000-square-foot coworking and incubator space BioLabs, which opened in 2022.

Universal DX’s expansion plans come as the Spanish Society for Technological Transformation, a Spain-owned technology investment company, invested nearly 30 million euros, or roughly $26 million, into the group. The investment will support the creation of 400 new jobs.

Spain launched the entity in 2024 to boost the country’s semiconductor and audiovisual sectors with an initial capital fund worth 22 billion euros, or roughly $21 billion at the time, Reuters previously reported.
